Superstorm Sandy came to our neighbourhood early this week bringing high winds and lots of rain to our fair city. The storm brought cold temps and way too much of the wet stuff. We did finally see some sunshine today so my plan was to hunt down some old piers that I had seen photographs of recently. I had a general idea on where to find them but it took a few tries and a chance turn that I found exactly what I was looking for.

Old Pier

This was my chance to play with ND filters and fun I definitely had. At first I tried a standard ND but very quickly decided to use the ten stop ND filter and I just fell in love with the effect. Course that meant exposure times of almost 3 minutes per shot and having to take the filter off just to focus each time I repositioned the camera (it’s too dark a filter to see through). I think the effect turned out pretty cool, don’t you?
