This morning eleven of us woke nice and early to head out to Algonquin Provincial Park in the hopes that we would see the sunrise. After some discussion last evening we had decided on photographing at Lake of Two Rivers. With the predawn light glowing in the sky we parked by the side of the road and situated ourselves for what we hoped would be a spectacular sunrise. The fog was heavy this morning and I was hoping that the sun would burn it off as it came up over the horizon.

As the morning progressed the clouds got thicker and thicker leaving us with very little light coming through the clouds. Eventually there was the occasional break in the sky but nothing that would allow us to see the morning glow but the light was pretty good.

After we were all satisfied that we had the shots we wanted we drove a little further east to the Lookout Trail in order to get a bird’s eye view of the park. The steep climb was fairly short and we finally broke out onto the first lookout and saw just how spectacular the park looks from the sky. Especially with the low lying clouds that covered certain portions of the park, namely the Lake of Two Rivers.

We spent some time at the lookout and watched the clouds over the lake roll in and then roll out. It was quite interesting to watch. We decided at that point to head back to the lodge for lunch and for some, a little nap time. The day remained overcast with the occasional sprinkle and eventually we decided that sunset was also out but we had a pretty good backup plan. We headed to Oxtongue Rapids to focus on the fall foliage along the bank of the river.

By seven o’clock we were all ready for diner so we headed back to the lodge for some warm food and relaxation. Tomorrow was another full day so we needed it.
