Snow has finally arrived! Course now its super messy outside on the roads but that didn’t deter my friend Nigel and I to grab our cameras and head northward. The goal today was to check out a couple of the mills that are listed in the Ontario’s Historic Mills book. Our first stop was the Barber Mill which unfortunately has an ugly fence around it. There is only one view worthwhile which means you are standing on a main road hanging over a bridge to get the shot. Continuing our journey to Rockwood we were detoured off the main drag and ended up at the Hortop Mill. From there we headed to Harris Woollen Ruins located in Rockwood Conservation Area.

The ruins here looked more like a castle rather than a mill. More interesting to us though was the large river that flows through the conservation area. I just loved the possibilities here. This one below reminded me a little of Ansel Adam’s Half Dome photos.
The Winter Road
Moving on from the park we headed out to find two more mills: Armstrong Mills and Birge Mills. Both are now converted into private homes so it was difficult to get any proper photographs. At this point we decided it was time to get some food in our tummies before calling it a day. On the way back to Rockwood I spotted a farm that had some wonderful lighting on it. The sun had just peeked out and lit this farmhouse up.

On the way back to Brampton we did another pull over to capture the image below. The sky was a great colour and the dark fence just made it all come together.
