Late last night my friend Kayla and I entered into Mikisew Provincial Park for our weekend adventure. Neither of us had been here before and we were both looking forward to exploring the park. Today was a little drizzly which meant some great stormy clouds were a possibility. After filling our tummies with food we set out on finding some of the trails. We found the Lakeside Trail pretty quickly which took us through a forest along the edge of the lake and opened out near the Dog Beach and Beach 3. From here you can take the Point Trail which we decided to do. As we walked into the forest we found this lovely dragonfly resting on a branch.

As we reached the end of the Point Trail there is a picnic bench nestled into the trees that overlooks the lake. We decided to stop and sit for awhile before continuing along. As we sat there a Mama duck and her ducklings swam by us.

They were a cute little procession. Getting up from the bench we headed back down the the trail onto Old Dog Trail which took us past a swamp and into the forest.

We were eaten alive by mosquitos so we decided to cut the hike short and head back to the campground along the road which saved us from the beasts with wings. We had a very good start to our exploring which we ended with a yummy meal by the campfire.
