I spent this weekend up in Algonquin on our second annual photo weekend with some members of the Brampton Photo Group as well as some friends we had met on the previous years trip. I had high hopes of getting some really great shots but turns out I was having a tougher time feeling the inspiration after my whirlwind trip (or maybe it was the nasty cold I had caught that slowed me down). It started out pretty good when I dragged a few people out on the dock to try out some astrophotography.
Night on Lake of Bays
The line of light on the shoreline are passing cars along the road making it look more like fire. After experimenting a little we all went to bed early in preparation for the early wake up call. The goal Saturday morning was to catch the sunrise on Lake of Two Rivers. We had tried this spot last year but it was so cloudy that morning there was not much of a sunrise. With fingers and toes crossed we headed to the same spot and found a lot of fog.

Looks like we were not going to get that sunrise shot we had hopped to catch this year. So we moved on to Ragged Falls Provincial Park where inspiration still stayed at bay. After a couple hours here we all headed back to the lodge. I had hoped to get the energy to try some more astrophotography but I ended up running out of steam. I did get a couple of people willing to get up for another try at sunrise. This time we headed to Huntsville on recommendation of a few people from our group that had tried it out the previous morning.

We had much more success this morning as the sun rose amidst minimal cloud cover. I decided to try some long exposure shots and was really happy with the above result. Once the sun showed its full face we headed to the lodge to get some breakfast and one more hike in before it was time to head home. We decided to try out the trails along the beaver ponds and the Oxtongue river.
Walk Through the Woods
I was on the hunt for little itty bitty mushrooms or lichen and I was not disappointed. I found four different types of mushrooms and this amazing lichen that reminded me of an underwater world.

Little colonies of Pixie Cups to go along with my Fairy Lake photo – I was having a fantasy world type of day. Too soon it was time to pack up and head home until next year’s photo adventure.
