I took Dave Hook and Nigel Banks to my favourite birding spot. Yup, you guessed it, Claireville Conservation Area. My go to winter birding place. Not sure what it will be like in summer but here’s hoping it continues to be the place to go.
There are lots and lots of Goldfinch at this location and I was able to get this quick shot of one before it flew back to the feeder. Moving a little further down to the larger feeder I placed myself closer to the field studies centre in order to cut the cold wind. About ten minutes later I got a woodpecker doing a very close fly-by before landing less then four feet away from me.
Talk about luck (because it certainly wasn’t patience since I wasn’t there that long). After this female spent sometime flitting from branch to feeder the male finally made his appearance.
He almost took off my head when flying in. I’m not sure what they were trying to prove but I was happy enough to keep shooting away. I even gave my friend Nigel a chance at them after I had reached my woodpecker photo limit.
