Nigel, Dave and myself headed out on photo adventure to Felkers Falls in Hamilton. These hidden gems sits behind a subdivision and one would never know they were there unless you searched for it specifically. There is a trail between two homes that takes you right to the lower falls where we spent quite a bit of time.
One of the hardest things to deal with when photographing these types of waterfalls is the surrounding foliage or non-foliage since we are still in early spring. Everything looks brown. Why not come back when the trees are full of leaves, you ask? Well, the water levels tend to lessen and the full effect of the waterfall wanes, sometimes to a trickle on some of the waterfalls. That’s the main reason we were out today – we wanted the full spring run-off effecting these waterfalls.
The main falls is about a kilometre upstream and there is a well tread path although some spots are tricky so watch your step. Once at the falls the spray was considerable so staying a little downriver kept me drier than the guys as they tried to get closer. Just to the left of the falls was still some ice leftover from the chilly winter we had. I’m so glad summer is on its way in we’ve all had enough of the snow and ice.
