Getting up early I took a peek outside the tent to make sure that the sky was clear enough for a sunrise shoot. Once confirmed I grabbed the gear along with a park map and set out to find a spot at Gurd Lake with views of Picnic Island. I was told at the education centre the previous day that there was a spot that overlooked the island and that it would be the best spot for a sunrise shoot.
And boy was it ever! I was also very lucky to have a early riser on the water as well. A canoeist was out and about just before the sun rose and I captured him in the reflected rays of the sun as he paddled past Picnic Island. After capturing some great shots it was time to head back to the campsite for breakfast and pack up the campsite. Before leaving the park I stopped at the main beach to enjoy the stillness of the morning.
On my drive back I stopped at three more provincial parks to check them out for possible opportunities: Sturgeon Bay, Oastler Lake and The Massassauga. Sturgeon Bay was a small campground that catered to fishermen so not much was going on that time of day. Oastler Lake I walked a short hidden trail that the ranger at the front desk told me about. And lastly at Massassauga I found out that if I wanted to see and photograph anything worthwhile I would need a canoe as it was basically a park on water. So armed with that information I pointed the car south and headed home.
