If you are interested in birding one of the best places to start is a local conservation area that puts out seed for the wintering birds. My local go to spot is Claireville Conservation Area. In the winter you can find all sorts of birds to keep you there for hours – unless of course the temps are frigid and you can only stay outside for a short time.

It’s still early in the season so temps haven’t hit those nasty cold temperatures just yet so Nigel and I were able to stay out a little longer. Once thing you must keep in mind is that birds don’t eat all day long so that means there are certain times of day that are better than others.

For me I tend to go mid to late afternoon and each time I’ve been lucky to find quite a few different type of birds at the feeders.

In a few short months I will be heading off to Iceland and one of the things I wanted to practice over the winter to prepare for the large landscapes is panoramic photography. So, as I was waiting for Nigel to wrap up, I shot a few photos to play around with later.

Putting it together was also not as tough as I originally thought. That said you have to make sure you shoot each image at the same exposure or you will get some anomalies. I still more practicing to get this technique down.
