I drove up North to visit some friends last night and decided to bring along my camera gear and check out an abandoned house west of Markdale. Along the way I detoured to Traverston Mill but with the blah grey skies it really wasn’t photographing as well as I’d hoped. However, in exploring the area further I found a small waterfall just off the edge of the bridge. The spot was awkward to photograph so I decided to zoom in on some of the roots that were being frozen by the spray of the rushing water.

Back on the road towards the house I made a few more roadside stops. There are a couple rivers crossing under the road and there is something there that I can’t put my finger on that makes me stop every time. I haven’t figured out what it is and most photos I take here are not answering that question.

The Opening

The Opening

Eventually I’ll figure it out but today I focused on a small opening in the trees on the opposite bank.

The final destination was the abandoned house which I’ve photographed a couple of times. I’ve been waiting for some dramatic weather to create a more moody photo and I finally got some today.

I went with a more sepia toned image rather than a straight black and white version. I’m still unsure which is spookier being able to see right through the windows to the back of the house or the window’s big black holes when looking at a different angle.
