Some days its hard to find unique photos from my hikes on the Bruce Trail. The problem mostly lies with me as I feel like I’m looking at the same photos over and over again. I thought this time around I would force myself to concentrate on getting some macro shots and convert them to black and white.

Taking colour away makes you focus on the textures and light & shadows in the photo. In the photo below, the leaves were a sea of green and although its not a bad photo taking away the colour helped focus the eye to the textures in the leaves.

Black and white can help simplify the photo and allows the eye and brain to process things we may not notice in the colour version of the image. So when you want to create something new with your photos try converting to black and white and see what you can create.
